Native Landscape Design is committed to utilizing native plants and local/recycled stone in every project we undertake. Over the years our stonework has matured into our own distinctive and recognizable style, regardless of the specific stone a particular landscape may call for. Our ever-evolving palette of unique plants make our gardens stand out from the rest. We take special care to preserve and accentuate the character of your property by mirroring the plant and stone communities which already reside there. This creates an aesthetic that is both modern and timeless— with the goal of seamlessly incorporating your home into its’ native surroundings. Amongst the highest compliments we receive from clients are how their new stone steps to the water, “look like they’ve always been there,” or that the new gardens “look like they belong.” We are lucky to ply our trade in the beautiful state of Maine, where many properties offer natural characteristics that need only be enhanced by a gentle touch and an artful eye.

Native Landscape Design is certified in Erosion Control Practices with the Maine DEP. We can assist shoreland owners in navigating state regulations and our track record affords us expedited permitting for work in sensitive areas. We adhere to the state’s ‘Best Management Practices’ (BCM’s) on every job, and go above and beyond to insure that our impact on the natural landscape is as minimal as possible. We are proud to have responsibly helped our clients improve access to the shore, create natural spaces to entertain and enjoy the view, and help mitigate erosion with native plants and natural materials.

Serving southern and mid-coast Maine, and the islands of Casco Bay. But winters are long… and we are willing to travel for the right project.

*We are currently booked into fall 2023, with many new installations already slated for 2024 and beyond. Please get in touch soon to schedule a consultation and reserve a space on our calendar.*

Andrew Thrall’s lifelong passion for plants started as a teenager. While enrolled in the Horticulture program at Portland Arts & Technology High School he volunteered at for the Maine Audobon Society at Gisland Farm in Falmouth and job-shadowed with various landscape architects in the area. He went on to SMTC for Plant and Soil Technology, and continued at College of the Atlantic where he focused on botany and plant community ecology. His botanical and horticultural endeavors have taken him from Acadia National Park to Boyce Thompson Arboretum in AZ, Sylvania Wilderness Area, Upper Peninsula, MI, La Selva Research Station, Costa Rica, and led him to become a divemaster in Utila, Honduras. These experiences have all helped shape the strong sense of place so central to our work and overall aesthetic.

Danielle Evers attended College of the Atlantic where she focused on art and philosophy, first started working with plants, and discovered her passion for geology and mineralogy. She worked in the COA Gardens and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Gardens in Seal Harbor, Mount Desert Island before joining Native Landscape Design. Her love of both plants and stone and the artistic approach she brings to every project, has helped take NLD’s work to new heights.
